Dandruff Control and Flakiness

OTC Level Dandruff Treatments and Clinical Testing. Dermatologist Tested and Approved Support

There are multiple natural and approved drug level products which can help reduce redness, flaky skin, and battle some of the causes of Dandruff and other scalp issues.

When you mention the term “Dandruff” directly in your marketing materials, you’ve qualified yourself as a drug product whether you intended to or not.

Unless you have an FDA approved active ingredient for the treatment of Dandruff such as Salicylic Acid or Zinc Pyrithione at an approved concentration, VCS recommends avoiding use of the term Dandruff, no matter how hard your marketing team pressures you!

Non-Drug Flakiness and Dryness Claims:

While you may not be able to directly call out Dandruff control with your novel, natural product, that doesn’t mean you can’t make compelling claims that the consumer will understand.

VCS will help you substantiate a number of secondary parameters and there are multiple ways to prove that your product can effectively treat them:

Non-Drug Claims:

  • Improves Scalp Hydration
  • Reduces Redness
  • Helps Reduce Flakiness and Scaling
  • Reduces Itching
  • Helps Promote a Healthier Scalp

Dandruff and Flakiness Support Techniques:

  • Before & After Photography
  • Instrumental Evaluations
  • Subjective Questionnaires
  • Expert Grading

While natural remedies exist, using the term dandruff is a “red flag” and must be treated as a full OTC level product launch with relevant support. VCS will work with your marketing and legal teams to determine the best approach to launch your individual product lines.
